Extra Small Design is a web design studio based in Phoenix, Arizona.
We work closely with our clients to craft websites that are as simple to use as they are beautiful to experience.
Our Work
Superfinishers
Superfinishers II is a precision machining shop in Phoenix, focusing on creative solutions and quality service. They came to us for a logo, printed collateral such as business cards and t-shirts, and a website overhaul. We focused on the shop’s connection to vintage airplanes and the military to design a logo that feels masculine and industrial with a nod to the old-time level of craft and service that the shop provides. The website is a single-page design built on a CMS to allow the clients to easily update the content, with the intent to grow and add additional pages down the line.

D+ACC Group
For The DACC Group, a company providing consulting, appraisal, and management services for design and architectural collections, we put together a simple identity package and small informational website. The site is built on a CMS to make it easy for the client to both maintain and update. The site is responsive and mobile optimized.

Johnson’s Beach
Johnson’s Beach and Resort is located in the northern California village of Guerneville on the Russian River in Sonoma County. As a major driver of tourism in this small town, they needed a website refresh and updated brand that capitalized on the beach’s long history and nostalgic charm. The site offers a simple one page navigation system and information hierarchy that helps visitors find what they need.

Calla Couture
Calla Couture Bridal specializes in couture wedding gowns and formal wear, catering to the full-figured bride and also providing bridal accessories. They came to us for a logo and simple website with room to grow.
In designing the mark, we created a hand-drawn calla lily that captures the essence of the flower while also hinting at feminine curves and the flow of fabric. The mark then inspired the custom hand-drawn filigree on the simple but elegant site.
Theravada Buddhist Civilizations
The Theravada Civilizations Project is an academic network for colleagues in Buddhist Studies and related fields. It supports collaborative exchanges among scholars based in the US, Canada, Britain, and Southeast Asia with the aim to undertake a systematic study of Theravada civilizations in South and Southeast Asia. With a generous grant from the Henry Luce Foundation, they were ready to develop a brand, as well as a website with research findings, teaching materials, bibliographies, audio-visual resources, and more. Design for this large and complex interactive site included the logo and branding as well as website design, strategic mapping, and development. The site features a completely customized client interface, member log-in and profiles, custom user uploads, and many other advanced interactive features.

Women’s Jewish Learning Center
The Women’s Jewish Learning Center brings together women of all ages and denominations from across the greater Phoenix area to study Jewish texts, literature, and values. They offer classes, retreats, and events throughout the year. The WJLC came to us with an existing logo, which we built on to develop additional brand language, and we worked closely with them to design and develop their website. In addition to an easy-to-use content management system, the website includes online course registration, acceptance of donations, and payment processing. Since the site’s implementation, enrollment and participation has doubled.

Udder Delights
We designed a fun, but modern logo for Udder Delights, the ice cream parlor for local Phoenix dairy farm, Superstition Farms. The unique shop also carries handmade farmer’s cheeses, artisan butters, and gourmet desserts to complement its award-winning ice cream flavors.
Yogalution Studio
Yogalution Studio is a small donation-based yoga practice located in the heart of Scottsdale. Its location on a large ranch, surrounded by serene desert, helps to provide a “spiritual refuge” for practitioners. The clean, fresh design of the website echoes the sense of harmony and calmness of spirit found within. True melding of aesthetics and functionality comes in the form of a custom reservation management system, created in lieu of a widely used but costly and poorly designed third party service. Logo design by Liz Taylor.

Larkin Wedding
Full website and stationery suite for our wedding, inspired by the golden field at Angela’s family’s historic barn where Kyle popped the question. The fully custom website included information for guests as well as a hand-coded honeymoon registry to receive monetary gifts. The paper goods included the save the date, invitation, reply card, name tag (in lieu of inner envelope), thank you note, program, favor stickers, and address label wrappers. Invitation components letterpressed on an antique press by Brad Jones.
ASU Online
We worked with ASU Online (Arizona State University’s College for online learning) to develop a student-led blog where online students could share their experiences. Since online students primarily interact through the web, if at all, the goal was to build community within the ASU online student body. The website features articles written by students and has an editorial feel, more like a magazine than a typical blog. Its content is easily sharable through social media, and the site pulls in ASU’s “Spark” feed to enhance connectivity.

We are definitely the little guy, and we like it that way. We believe in all the “little” things: good relationships with our clients, giving your project the time and care it deserves, and honest communication. Our job, as we see it, is to create beautiful designs that showcase your product or service to its best advantage. We use design to create simple and intuitive user experiences appropriate to your customers, whether through the web, print, or other aspects of your business.
